I have the 963 setup, my house is 10gb to the wall in each room, the router and both satellites are up at 2.5gb as i used the wired backhaul solution. It would have been great if the netgear router recognised this and opened up the higher 5ghz band. i have the black version, my wife refused my preferred route of a WAP ceiling solution due to not liking the look / idea. So it was no suprise when she also said no to the Asus ET12, quote it looks cheap and i dont like the clear plastic section. For me it would have been the Asus route. To summarise, the wife is not always right. My speeds have been greater than you have experienced, in most of my rooms on 6ghz, i get 2401mbps recorded within the orbi analyser app on my phone, further away dropping to 1921mbps.
Netgear’s Orbi Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router System Now Available for Pre-Order
The Orbi Quad-band router is available for pre-order now, with shipping expected "in time for the holidays" (Netgear's store quotes an October 29th ship date). You can also buy additional satellites for $599 each. That's a massive amount to spend on your home network, but Netgear is clearly counting on at least some customers who'll pay whatever it takes to get no-compromise WiFi. Just know there are some good-enough alternatives. Linksys' AXE8400 doesn't have the backhaul band, but its one- and two-node options (plus lower overall pricing) could make it a better pick if you're more interested in WiFi 6E compatibility than raw throughput.
The biggest difference between the Orbi AX6000 and systems like those is that the Orbi beefs things up with a faster processor, faster top speeds and -- most importantly -- a second 5GHz band that the system uses as a dedicated backhaul connection between the router and its satellites. That tri-band approach helps the router and its satellites pass data back and forth without slowing your speeds down too much, and that's the key to unlocking the best mesh performance.
Those averages are as high as they are because the Orbi AX6000 is a remarkably consistent router. It didn't matter if I was testing in the morning, afternoon or evening, or if I connected close to the router or far from it -- my speeds were as consistent from test to test as I've ever seen from a mesh router, and even more consistent than the newer Orbi AXE11000 system.
The NETGEAR Orbi Tri-band Whole Home Mesh WiFi System is another great option for a whole home mesh Wifi system. You get a router + mesh extender that can cover up to 5,000 sq ft. The Orbi system features tri-band radios for maximum Wifi speed and performance, one major advantage over the Starlink mesh system.
I have starlink but the main router is in a storage room above the garage. I put it there for 2 reasons.1) it was the easiest access point from my starlink antenna on the garage roof and 2) I was able to connect Ethernet cable t a demarcation box in the basement. I have all of tvs hard wired from this location. I ordered 3 mesh routers and 3 Ethernet adaptors. My original thought was to hardwire the mesh nodes throughout the house but the system did not work. I plugged them rough Wi-Fi and all connected to the main router and Wi-Fi signal was still red according to the starlink app. Looking for guidance.
My suggestion would be to completely reset the Starlink system. Go to the app, settings and then Factory Reset. Unplug your mesh system and do the Starlink setup again. Make sure you can connect to the Starlink router Wifi before trying to set back up the Linksys mesh system again.
NETGEAR, Inc., the leading provider of award-winning connected products designed to simplify and improve people's lives, today introduced the next generation in smart home WiFi mesh systems. The Orbi Quad-band Mesh WiFi 6E System (RBKE960 Series) adds the newly available 6 GHz WiFi band to deliver quad-band technology with faster Internet speeds to more devices simultaneously with less interference and wait time. The most powerful Orbi to date supports multi-Gigabit Internet throughout the home, improving WiFi performance for the growing number of devices in today's homes while paving the way for new devices and experiences to come.
Devices running on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi bands will also experience an improvement in coverage and increased speeds of up to 30 percent with the Orbi RBKE960 Series due to the system's upgraded WiFi radio and antenna designs relative to the previous flagship model, the Tri-band Orbi RBK850 series. To augment the increased WiFi speed, the Internet connection has also been upgraded to support up to 10 Gigabits, the fastest Internet speed available now or in the near term. Additional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports have been added on the router and satellites to provide an option for wired connections for customers with the latest multi-Gigabit Ethernet devices.
The industry's first quad-band WiFi 6E system, Orbi ensures maximum throughput with 16 WiFi streams - the highest specification available -- at all 3 bands, 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz. Furthermore, similar to the previous tri-band Orbi systems, the RBKE960 series uses a dedicated WiFi 6 backhaul, pioneered by NETGEAR, for data exchange between the router and satellites without impacting the performance of connected devices.
State-of-the-Art Security and ServicesThe Orbi Quad-band WiFi 6E Mesh System supports the new, more secure WiFi Protected Access 3 (WPA3). With 128-bit encryption, the next generation of WPA protects against weak passwords that are easily cracked by hackers. The new Orbi system also supports four separate WiFi networks. In addition to the default home WPA3 mesh network for 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz devices and a guest network, users have the option to set up their new 6E devices on an exclusive WiFi 6E network to ensure these devices realize the best speeds and performance possible. There is also an IoT network for smart home devices such as smart plugs, lights, sprinklers, etc. that only support WPA2. These discrete networks allow for flexibility of network configuration, maximum performance and the separation of less secure devices from the main network. For added peace of mind, Quad-band Orbi WiFi 6E includes a free 30-day trial of the newly enhanced NETGEAR Armor service to protect the connected home from online threats. Unlike traditional endpoint Internet security products, NETGEAR's Armor is built into the router as a comprehensive security solution to monitor activity going to and from the Internet, protecting all the devices on a network, including Smart TVs, security cameras, game consoles, smart speakers, streaming players, and other smart home gadgets which typically would not be able to be loaded with Internet security protection software by users. NETGEAR's Armor also protects the traditional computing devices such as smart phones, tablets, laptops and desktops, while eliminating the need for multiple security subscriptions or software on each of these computing devices. Also available as a paid subscription on the new system is NETGEAR's Smart Parental Controls, which help parents easily manage their children's time and access online across all connected devices- ultimately promoting safe and healthy screen habits.AvailabilityThe award-winning design of Orbi has made it an elegant and unobtrusive element in some of the world's most sophisticated homes. The Orbi Quad-band Mesh WiFi 6E System RBKE963 (router and two satellites) will be available for pre-order today in the US and shortly in the UK on NETGEAR's online stores (NETGEAR.com and NETGEAR.co.uk) -- shipping in time for the holidays -- and in other regions as WiFi 6E is approved. NETGEAR will also offer the Orbi WiFi 6E Black Edition for a limited time on NETGEAR.com. For larger homes looking to expand WiFi 6E coverage throughout every room NETGEAR will offer additional satellites and bundles on NETGEAR.com as well.Pricing: Orbi Quad-band Mesh WiFi 6E System
Support for up to 10 Gigabits has been included with this router, to make certain the user is ready for "the fastest internet speed available now or in the near term." This mesh system can handle 16 WiFi streams, "the highest specification available" at 2.4, 5, and 6GHz.
Netgear suggests that devices running on the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz WiFi bands will benefit from the extra bands available with this new router system. Netgear says that these devices will experience "an improvement in coverage and increased speeds up to 30 percent... due to the system's upgraded WiFi radio and antenna designs." That's compared to the Tri-band Orbi (RBK850).
To take advantage of the 6Ghz WiFi this router/mesh system is capable of working with, the user will need to have internet service that provides said 6GHz band. Users will also need to have devices that can make use of the band. The Samsung Galaxy S21 is able to use WiFi 6E. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G, ASUS ZenFone 8, Xiaomi Mi 11, Dell Latitude 5520, Lenovo Thinkpad T14, Intel WiFi 6E PCIe cards, and the Samsung Neo QLED 8K TV have the ability to connect with WiFi 6E, too.
The Netgear Orbi Quad-band Mesh WiFi System will be available in several different packages. There'll be one with code RBKE963 with one router and 2 satellites for $1499.99 MSRP. Another set has the same price with code RBKE693B with 2 satellites and one "Orbi Black Edition" router. You can also purchase an add-on satellite on its own (RBSE960) for $599 MSRP. This mesh internet system will be released on pre-order starting today.
I wanted a mesh system to increase range while maintaining good speeds and this system doesn't disappoint. It's really good and ready for current gen. It's way cheaper then it's bigger brother the ax6000 which I was looking at but found that too costly. The response and shipping was also fantastic from netgear team.
